One of the best ways I've found to get my miles in and save gas money is to commute by bike to work.
Few things are better than jumping on my Trek Madone and turning the pedals in the mornin' .
It's 20-25 miles each way depending on the route I take , which usually is dictated by how I feel that a day.
In reality it only takes me about 10-15 minutes longer on the bike due to traffic ect. I hit in the car.
Getting to work knowing I've got my workout in for the day is a great feeling. Not having a shower is a bummer but I have a neat little spray on cleaner that I use which leaves you feeling fresh and clean while not smelling too bad as well haha.
It is very easy to make excuses to yourself why you should drive in on any given day but once you get that bike rolling you wonder why the thought of driving even crossed your mind.
Usually I put the hammer down heading in and cruise it on the way home knowing that breakfast awaits when I get to store so there's extra motivation ! Egg and cheese bagel sandwiches for the win !
One trick I've learned to save time and stress on my back is not having to carry a backpack , I leave a couple changes of work clothes and riding gear at work which I then take home with me and wash on the days I do end up driving in . I also have a spare set of sneakers which I leave at work as well . Not having 15-20 pounds of gear on your back makes the ride so much nicer !
Well , I better get ready to roll and get to work. Keep on riding ...

Keep It Moving
I am a cyclist and all have been I guess.
I have been riding and racing bikes for nearly four decades.
BMX came 1st followed by MTB racing , Road and then Cyclocross .
The past couple of years I have been focusing on Cyclocross as it fits my schedule and takes up less of my time overall.
Once the shock and excitement over learning about the twins it was time to get back on the bike . It would be good to clear my head if nothing else.
Slowly the realization crept into view that this would be my last few months without children and that was a bit scary truth be told.
I was not so much afraid of taking care of these babies but what they would do to my free time etc. This comes with the territory but it was going to take some getting used to none the less .
In the meantime I had 3 months to get ready for Cross season and I wasn't going to waste it.
Game on !

Twins !
On June 1st 2010 we went to the Dr.'s office to get more info. on my wife's pregnancy.
Upon first finding out that she was pregnant the Doctors expressed some feelings that based on the numbers from her positive test that there may be more going on than a singleton pregnancy.
After doing more blood work etc. we waited , and then nurse came in.
With a smile on her face she asked us if we were ready to hear the news. We said and we were and then the words came out of the nurse's mouth.." Well guys , you're having twins !! "
Holy shit ! I was blown away for a few seconds . We looked at each other and started to gather in what just happened . A medical miracle is what had just happened.
You see , my wife suffers from PCOS and cannot conceive naturally. We had gone through several rounds of fertility treatments and 3 rounds of IVF and were giving up hope that good things may come our way.
We had starting talking about the idea of adoption in the event that we were amongst the unlucky couples that do not receive the miracle that we were about to receive.
After gathering ourselves for a few minutes my wife looked at me through teary eyes and with a smile said "happy birthday honey".

One Crazy Year
The past year plus has been one of the craziest periods of time in my 38 years on this planet.
I found out nearly a year ago that my wife was pregnant with twins !
Of course we were happy to get the great news that we would soon be parents but we were a bit shocked to find out that we would be having not one but two little ones !
The news came on my birthday that it would be twins , that's one crazy b-day present for sure !
As with most pregnancies things started off with the usual visits to the Dr.'s offices and follow up exams but over the next few months we would find out that the two little people growing inside my wife's belly would bring their own challenges to the equation.
Shortened cervix ...WTF is that and what does it mean ??!!
Months of bed rest is what it means , let the fun begin.
